Outdoor Activities

Perak River Safari
Here in Kuala Kangsar, an adventure with Nature awaits you. The Perak River Safari is a much tamer affair than the East African one. But then it is much cheaper, more comfortable, easily accessible and no less interesting. In East Africa, you are treated to the sight of lions, giraffe, buffaloes, gnus and the many animals and birds we have come to associate with that vast continent.
Along the Perak River you are treated to the sight of riverine villages, domestic buffaloes (much gentler than their African cousins), terrapin and other inhabitants, birds and insects, tropical rain forest that reach down to the water’s edge and agile monkeys playing catch-me-if-you-can in the forest cover. Malaysia’s river eco-system is open for your exploration. The eco-tourist will definitely experience an unforgetable adventure as the trip will be much cooler, less tiring and certainly much greener than East Africa’s.
River Safaris are conducted by several experts who have reservation booths along the Perak River at Jalan Tebing, Tepi Sungai. A 25-minutes ride to Jawang is followed by a two hour river cruise. The eco-tourist will be able to appreciate the rich diversity of a tropical rainforest. Do not be surprised that the fauna along the way share your curiosity. The crocodile that looks at you with its beady eyes may be wondering what you are doing in the boat instead of being in the water!
The activities in which you can participate in Jawang include bird watching, jungle trekking, rafting, canoeing, fishing and visits to limestone caves. You can even arrange to spend a few nights in an Orang Asli Village.

Lata Iskandar (Iskandar Waterfall)
Iskandar waterfall is one of the finer and more impressive examples of nature that is easily accessible to most people. Lying approximately midway between Tapah and Cameron Highlands, this multi-tiered fall, has pools at the base of each tier.
Many visitors take the opportunity to go for a short dip in the cool water of these pools, which have their origins up in the higher reaches of the surrounding highlands. Nature lovers can go slightly off the beaten track and get to enjoy the rich flora and fauna.
Near the base of the falls, visitors will find a handicraft bazaar where an assortment of craft is available for one’s selection. Look out especially for the craft of the Orang Asli, the indigenous people of the country.
A row of stalls serving drinks and snacks have been set up nearby for the convenience of the people who stop to enjoy the sight of Iskandar waterfall.

Lata Kijang
The Kijang waterfall is located about 18km from Tapah. The main attraction of this waterfall is the impressive series of cascades winding down a 100-meter drop. There are parking bays and eating stalls for picnickers. Visitors may also visit an orchid garden and a bamboo park.

National Stud Farm
The National Stud Farm was the brainchild of our first Prime Minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman. Dating back to 1969, the project was implemented upon the recommendation of a joint committee comprising the Malaysian Totalistor Board, the Agriculture Department and the Veterinary Services Department. Its aim was to conduct studies on the viability of setting up a stud farm to breed local thoroughbred horses. Located in Tanjung Rambutan, about 16 km north east of Ipoh, the National Stud Farm is set in 120 acres of rolling pastoral land with some of the best equine facilities for breeding thoroughbreds in the tropics. From its humble beginnings as an experimental farm, The National Stud Farm has steadily attained recognition as a successful breeding centre in the region where quality thoroughbreds have been bred for more than two decades.

Teluk Batik Beach
About 6.5 kilometres from Lumut lies Teluk Batik, a favourite spot for campers, picnickers, swimmers and sun-lovers. The stretches of white sandy beach are ideal for whatever activity you have in mind. You can rent rooms and chalets along the beach at affordable prices. Contact the Manager of Teluk Batik Chalets. (05-935554) for reservations.
The annual Pesta Laut or Sea Festival is held at Teluk Batik, Lumut in the month of August and attracts thousands of visitors. There are sea-sport competitions, cultural shows and fun-and-food fairs for the young and the old to enjoy. Please check with the Perak Tourist information Centre for the actual date of Pesta Laut Lumut.

Tambun Hot Springs
A 15-minute drive from Ipoh towards Tanjung Rambutan brings you to the foot of a limestone hill where a rejuvenating experience awaits you - an invigorating hot bath from a natural spring. The bath is open daily from 3.00pm to 12.00 midnight. The facilities include saunas and restrooms. Entrance fee is RM 5.00
Other hot springs in Perak are found in Sungkai, Pengkalan Hulu, Kampung Ulu Slim in Slim River, Kampung Air Panas in Grik and Manong in Kuala Kangsar.

Kuala Woh Recreational Forest
Situated at 13km from Tapah town, the Kuala Woh Recreational Forest Park is easily accessible by road. It is a place not to be missed by people who enjoy the pleasure of flora and fauna of tropical forests. The park offers interesting walks and treks, with the added excitement of being able to see the Rajah Brooks butterflies in their natural habitats. The Kuala Woh Recreational Forest Park also incorporates a natural hot-water spa at Lubok Merbau.
Other attractions in the area are the 30 metre long suspended bridge hung across the Batang Padang river and the surrounding scenery from this high vantage point.

Lost World of Tambun
The Lost World of Tambun is a theme park on the other side of Tambun. If you have children, this could be a nice way to extend your visit to Tambun.
